Isabel Kentengian – CV – September 2020

Isabel María Kentengian began her career teaching languages in Madrid, Spain, and has taught at TCNJ since 2004. As a bi-national, she became interested at an early age in questions of cultural and national identity, heritage language maintenance, individual and societal bilingualism, and intercultural understanding. Her research is situated at the intersections of applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and international education. For her doctoral dissertation she focused on Hispanic/Latino students’ experiences and identity positionings studying in Spain. Other research focuses on the use of linguistic landscapes in language teaching, heritage language learning, community engagement in the language classroom and other critical engagement with language and culture for engaged citizenship.

In addition to her academic work, Isabel serves as a volunteer trip administrator for Healing the Children New Jersey. Since 1999, she has led 18 medical-surgical teams to Ecuador, Thailand, Bolivia, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
