Welcome to the Italian Program

The Italian Program at TCNJ has a large variety of course offerings at the 200 and 300 level. Students can learn about Italian culture, history, civilization, literature, and film in the target language. Minors and Majors (Self-Designed Majors) are encouraged to study abroad for a semester. TCNJ offers a summer program in Italy. The Italian faculty is energetic, passionate, and committed to the students’ learning and academic and professional success.

Dr. Marco Circelli on the New Geographies of the Made in Italy

On Thursday Oct. 29th Dr. Marco Circelli, Executive Director of the Italy-America Chamber of Greater Philadelphia spoke to Italian students about the New Geographies of the Made in Italy. After the 2008 economic crises, Italian companies and entrepreneurs have been devising new strategies to market their products in the US. The crisis brings new opportunities for productive US-Italy collaborations and for the students interesting possibilities of internships in Italian-American companies in the greater Philadelphia area and in Italy.

Intersections: Italy in Music, Art, Literature, and Cinema

In a world that is made relentlessly more composite and multidimensional, the intersecting of art, cinema, music, and literature can help us re-configure rhythmically and synergetically the dissonant and discrete realities in which we are immersed. The mathematical concept of the intersection or the visual image of a multiple road junction provide us with both a figurative and conceptual framework for the investigation of how our understanding can be solicited intellectually and artistically by boundary crossing, cooperative practices, and kaleidoscopic experiences. Art, literature, music, and cinema in Italy have always pointed towards innovative ways in which to intersect and interact, producing new experiential and epistemological paradigms. Intersections aims at exploring Italy’s imaginative and idiosyncratic collaborations in and between the arts, to reveal how unconventional contacts, exchanges, and relations can implode the limits of the imagination and the creative process, and ultimately expand the horizon of the known and the knowable.

Comparative and interdisciplinary analyses pertinent to Italian and Cultural Studies, Film studies and the Arts are welcome and may encompass literature, Italian-American studies, history, art history, philosophy, anthropology, music, political science, religion, gender studies, and any other relevant discipline.

The Third Intersections/Intersezioni conference was held in Florence, June 5-7 2015. Fulvio Orsitto (California State University, Chico), Simona Wright (TCNJ) and Francesco Ciabattoni (Georgetown University) are the organizers of the event.
